The Stars Fell on Henrietta
The Stars Fell on Henrietta ★★ ½ 1994 (PG)
Downon-his-luck wildcatter Mr. Cox (Duvall) searches for oil and redemption. He's looking for it on the failing farm of couple Don and Cora Day (Quinn and Fisher) in the middle of the 1930s Texas dustbowl with the reluctant backing of more successful oil man (Dennehy). Quiet character study of an obsessed wheeler-dealer playing with his last poker chip verges on the romantic in its quest for black gold, true to its message about never giving up hope. Directorial debut for Keach is led by typically excellent portrayals by Duvall and Dennehy, but Quinn and Fisher are given little to work with. Marks the first movie Clint Eastwood's Malpaso company has produced in which he didn't star or direct since “Ratboy.” 110m/C VHS . Robert Duvall, Aidan Quinn, Frances Fisher, Brian Dennehy, Lexi (Faith) Randall, Kaytlyn Knowles, Francesca Ruth Eastwood; D: James Keach; W: Philip Railsback; C: Bruce Surtees; M: David Benoit.
