Traces of Red ★★ 1992 (R)

Set in affluent Palm Beach, and filled with dead bodies, colorful suspects, and red herrings. The complex plot, often so serious it's funny, leads viewers through a convoluted series of events. Cop Jack Dobson (Belushi) is found dead in the opening scene; in homage to “Sunset Boulevard,” his corpse acts as the narrator, a vehicle which unfortunately doesn't work as well here. He promises to recount the events leading up to his death which circle around a series of murders, and the peo ple in his life who are possible suspects. Although Belushi's performance is aver age, Goldwyn, as Dobson's partner, shows off the talent he displayed in “Ghost.” 105m/C VHS, DVD . James Belushi, Lorraine Bracco, Tony Goldwyn, William Russ, Michelle Joyner, Joe Lisi, Jim Piddock; D: Andy Wolk; W: Jim Piddock; C: Tim Suhrstedt; M: Graeme Revell.
