Alessandro, Victor (Nicholas)
Alessandro, Victor (Nicholas), American conductor; b. Waco, Tex., Nov. 27, 1915; d. San Antonio, Nov. 27, 1976. He received training in horn with his father. After studying composition with Hanson and Rogers at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. (Mus. B., 1937), he pursued training at the Salzburg Mozarteum (1937) and with Pizzetti at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome (1938). From 1938 to 1951 he was conductor of the Okla. Sym. Orch. He was conductor of the San Antonio Sym. Orch. from 1951 until his death.
