Anderson, Lucy (nèe Philpot)

Anderson, Lucy (nèe Philpot), English pianist and teacher; b. Bath, Dec. 12, 1797; d. London, Dec. 24, 1878. Her father, John Philpot, was a prof. of music. She settled in London and in 1820 married the violinist George Frederick Anderson (b. London, 1793; d. there, 1876), who served as Master of the Queen’s Musick from 1848 to 1870. She became the first woman to be engaged as a soloist by the Phil. Soc. in 1822. She was the piano teacher of Queen Victoria and her children.
