Barlow, Samuel L(atham M(itchell)

Barlow, Samuel L(atham M(itchell), American composer; b. N.Y., June 1, 1892; d. Wyndmoor, Pa., Sept. 19, 1982. He studied at Harvard Univ. (B.A., 1914), with Goetschius and Franklin Robinson in N.Y., with Philipp (piano) in Paris, and with Respighi (orchestration) in Rome (1923). He was active in various N.Y. music, civic, and liberal organizations, and also taught. His autobiography appeared as The Astonished Muse (N.Y., 1961).
