Blaes, Arnold Joseph
Blaes, Arnold Joseph, noted Belgian clarinetist; b. Brussels, Dec. 1, 1814; d. there, Jan. 11, 1892. He studied with Bachmann at the Brussels Cons., winning first prize there in 1834. He traveled on concert tour in Europe, and, while in Russia, married Elisa Blaes (née Meerti) in 1843. He taught at the Brussels Cons, from 1844 to 1871. His autobiography appeared as Souvenirs de ma vie artistique (Brussels, 1888).
