Chilingirian, Levon

Chilingirian, Levon, Cypriot violinist; b. Nicosia, May 28, 1948. After studies in Nicosia, he pursued formal training at the Royal Coll. of Music in London and with M. Parikian. With the pianist Clifford Benson, he won first prize in the BBC Beethoven Competition in 1969 and in the Munich International Competition in 1971; they toured widely in recital from 1970. In 1971 he organized the Chilingirian String Quartet, which acquired a fine reputation.
