Delia Valle, Pietro
Delia Valle, Pietro , Italian man of letters and composer, known as “II Pellegrino”; b. Rome, April 11, 1586; d. there, April 21, 1652. He studied harpsichord with Stefano Tavolaccio, Quinzio Solini, and Paolo Quagliati, counterpoint, continuo playing, and theorbo with Solini, and viola da gamba with Marco Fraticelli. After extended travel abroad (1614–26), he returned to Rome, becoming a significant figure in the cultural life of the city. He publ. an account of his adventures as Viaggi descritti in 54 lettere famigliari (4 vols., Rome, 1650–58). Almost all of his music is lost, but his valuable Delia musica dell’eta nostra che non e punto inferiore, anzi e migliore di quella dell’eta (Jan. 16, 1640) may be found inA. Gori, G.B. Doni: Trattati di musica, II (Florence, 1763).
