Delsart, Jules

Delsart, Jules , French cellist, bass viol player, and pedagogue; b. Valenciennes, 1844; d. Paris, July 3, 1900. He studied cello at the Valenciennes Cons, and with Franchomme at the Paris Cons., where he graduated with the premier prix in 1866. He subsequently made successful tours of Europe as a cellist. He also mastered the bass viol and played in the Societe des Instruments Anciens. In 1884 he became a prof, at the Paris Cons.
