Failoni, Sergio

Failoni, Sergio, Italian conductor; b. Verona, Dec. 18, 1890; d. Sopron, July 25, 1948. He received his musical education in Verona and Milan. He conducted opera throughout Italy, from 1932 making appearances at La Scala in Milan. From 1928 to 1947 he was chief conductor of the State Opera in Budapest. In 1947 he was invited to make his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y.; however, he suffered a stroke and died the following year. He was regarded as one of the leading interpreters of the Italian repertoire.
