Fasano, Renato (b Naples, 1902; d Rome, 1979). It. conductor, pianist, and composer. Dir., Cagliari Cons. 1931–9. Art. dir., St Cecilia Acad., Rome, 1944–7. Founder and cond., 1947, of Collegium Musicum Italicum which in 1952 became I Virtuosi di Roma, chamber ens. specializing in early mus. Salzburg Fest. début with them 1956. Dir., Venice Cons. 1952–60. Dir., Rome Cons., 1960–72. Pres., St Cecilia Acad., Rome, 1972–6.
