Fischer, Betty
Fischer, Betty, Austrian operetta singer; b. Vienna, Oct. 27, 1887; d. there, Jan. 19, 1969. She centered her career in Vienna, where she sang in variety productions and operetta at a young age. After establishing herself as a valuable member of the Raimundtheater (1900–1903), she was prima donna at the Theater an der Wien (1903–28). In 1928 she starred at the Johann Strauss-Theater. She also made guest appearances at other theaters in Vienna and other music centers. In later years, she appeared in character roles at the Raimundtheater and taught at the Vienna Cons. Fischer was an outstanding operetta singer in her day, excelling in both traditional and contemporary roles.
