Galli-Curci, Amelita (b Milan, 1882; d La Jolla, Calif., 1963). It. soprano. Début as Gilda in Rigoletto at Trani, 1906, then sang in It., Egypt, Spain, Russ., and C. and S. Amer. Amer. début Chicago 1916, then Chicago Opera 1916–24; NY Met 1921–30. Brilliant agility in coloratura roles such as Gilda, Violetta, and Elvira in I Puritani. Retired 1937. Never sang in opera in Brit., but gave recitals.
