Garrido, Pablo, Chilean composer and ethnomusicologist; b. Valparaiso, March 26, 1905; d. Santiago, Sept. 14, 1982. He studied in Santiago, conducted concerts of Chilean music, and gave lectures. He publ. a valuable monograph, Biografia de la Cueca Chilena (Santiago, 1942). He composed an opera, La sugestion (Santiago, Oct. 18, 1961), a ballet, El Guerrillero (1963), Rapsodia chilena for Piano and Orch. (1938), Piano Concerto (1950), Fantasia antillana for Cello and Orch. (1950), 13 & 13 for String Quartet (1951), piano pieces, and songs based on Chilean folklore.
