Gibbs, Joseph

Gibbs, Joseph, English organist and composer; b. Dec. 23, 1699; d. Ipswich, Dec. 12, 1788. He was organist at St. Nicholas’s Church, Harwich, in Dedham, Essex, and finally at St. Mary Tower, Ipswich (from 1748). He publ. 8 violin sonatas (c. 1746) and 6 string quartets (c. 1777), and also wrote organ music.
