Giddings, Thaddeus P(hilander Woodbury)

Giddings, Thaddeus P(hilander Woodbury), American music educator; b. Anoka, Minn., Feb. 19, 1868; d. Clermont, Fla., March 4, 1954. He was educated at the Univ. of Minn. (1885-87) and at the Western Normal Music School in Lake Geneva, Wise. (1890) and in Highland Park, 111. (graduated, 1892). After serving as a supervisor of music in several Mid-western cities (from 1891), he held that position with the Minneapolis public schools (1910-42). He also taught public school music at the Univ. of Minn. (1915-28) and music education at the MacPhail Coll. of Music in Minneapolis (1923-42). With Joseph E. Maddy, he founded the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Mich., in 1928, remaining active with it until his death.
