Gille, Jacob Edvard, Swedish composer; b. Stock-holm, Aug. 10, 1814; d. there, Nov. 8, 1880. He was a notary public, and learned to play the piano and organ. He served as choral master at the Catholic church in Stockholm, where he wrote 9 masses. As a composer he acquired a solid technique, his style of composition closely adhering to the German school. His works include 4 operas, 5 syms., 5 string quartets, 4 piano trios, 2 string trios, 3 piano sonatas, 3 organ sonatas, and many minor pieces.
