BBC 1959–72, achieving catholic expansion of repertory, bringing Boulez to conduct BBCSO, and extending scope and range of Henry Wood Promenade Concerts. Chairman, British section ISCM 1954–8. Art. dir., Bath Fest. 1976–84. Autobiography 1992. CBE 1964. Knighted 1970.
