Hedley, Arthur
Hedley, Arthur, English musicologist; b. Dudley, Northumberland, Nov. 12, 1905; d. Birmingham, Nov. 8, 1969. He studied French literature at the Federal Univ. of Durham (1923–27), and music with W. G. Whittaker at Newcastle. An ardent Chopinist, he learned the Polish language to be able to study Chopin documentation in the original. He publ, a biography, Chopin (London, 1947; 3rd ed., rev., 1974, by M. J. E. Brown), and edited and tr. Selected Correspondence of Fryderyk Chopin (London, 1962).
