Hellmesberger, Joseph (b Vienna, 1855; d Vienna, 1907). Austrian violinist and composer, son of above. 2nd vn. in Hellmesberger Qt. from 1875, succeeding as leader 1891. Leader Vienna PO 1870–84. Prof. of vn., Vienna Cons. from 1878. 2nd cond., Vienna Opera 1899. Cond. Vienna PO 1901–3. Court cond. Stuttgart 1904–5. Comp. 10 operettas.
