Hoerburger, Felix
Hoerburger, Felix, German musicologist; b. Munich, Dec. 9, 1916. He studied composition at the Munich Academy of Music and musicology at the Univ. of Munich (Ph.D., 1941, with a diss. on the music of the Ungoni in East Africa), completing his Habilitation at the Univ. of Erlangen (1963, with a study of dance among Albanian Yugoslavs). He was organist and research assistant at the Music Research Inst. in Regens-burg (1947–68) and at the Musicology Research Inst. of the Univ. of Erlangen (1968), where he later became lecturer (1970). He then was a prof. at the Univ. of Regensburg (from 1971). His extensive publications on folk music include studies of the music and dance of Bavaria, Turkey, the Balkans, Nepal, and Afghanistan.
