HÖffgen, Marga

HÖffgen, Marga, German contralto; b. Mülheim an der Ruhr, April 26, 1921; d. Müllheim, Baden, July 7, 1995. She studied at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik and with Hermann Weissenborn. She made her concert debut in Berlin in 1952; in 1953 she made a highly successful appearance in Vienna as a soloist in the St. Matthew Passion conducted by Karajan; she then was active as a concert singer in Europe; also appeared in opera at Covent Garden in London, at the Vienna State Opera, and at the Bayreuth Festival.
