Holmes, Reed K.
Holmes, Reed K., American composer; b. Oak Ridge, Term., Aug. 20, 1952. He studied at the Univ. of Tenn. (B.M., 1974; M.M., 1976) and the Univ. of Tex. at Austin (Ph.D., 1981, with the diss. Relational Systems and Process in Recent Works of Luciano Berio), where he taught (from 1985) and was director of its Electronic Music Studio. He was a founding member of the Tex. Composers Forum (1985). He received an ASCAP Award in Composition (1989) and an NEA grant (1990–91). His spirited compositions are often minimalist in design, motivated by rhythmic and timbrai processes.
