Holst, Henry
Holst, Henry, Danish violinist of English descent; b. Copenhagen, July 25, 1899; d. there, Oct. 15, 1991. He was a pupil of Telmanyi at Copenhagen Cons, and of Hess in Berlin. In 1919 he made his debut in Copenhagen. After serving as concertmaster of the Berlin Phil. (1923–31), hewas active as a soloist and chamber music player. He also taught at the Royal Manchester Coll. of Music (1931-46; 1950-53), the Royal Coll. of Music in London (1946–54), the Royal Danish Cons, of Music in Copenhagen (from 1953), and the Tokyo Univ. of the Arts (1961–63).
