Humpert, Hans, German composer; b. Paderborn, April 19, 1901; d. in battle in Salerno, Sept. 15, 1943. He studied at the Frankfurt am Main Cons, and in Berlin, then taught at Paderborn until he was called into the army. His music is marked by a neo-Romantic quality, with a strong contrapuntal structure. His works include 2 syms. (1937, 1942), 3 string quartets, String Trio, Violin Sonata, Viola Sonata, Sonata for Solo Flute, 5 cantatas, 4 masses, 3 motets, 7 Psalms, and choral and organ works.
