Jachimecki, Zdzislaw
Jachimecki, Zdzislaw, eminent Polish musicologist; b. Lemberg, July 7, 1882; d. Krakόw, Oct. 27, 1953. He studied music with Niewiadomski and Jarecki in Lemberg, then musicology with Adler at the Univ. of Vienna (Ph.D., 1906, with the diss. Psalmy Mikolaja Gomólki; publ, in an abr. ed., Kraków, 1907). He also studied composition with Grädener and Schoenberg in Vienna and completed his Habilitation at the Univ. of Kraków in 1911 with his Wplywy wloskie w muzyce polskiej cześč I. 1540-1560. (Italian Influence on Polish Music, Part 1, 1540-1560; publ, in Kraków, 1911). He then was a lecturer in music history there, later being made a reader (1917) and a prof. (1921), and was also a guest lecturer at many European univs. He conducted sym. concerts in Kraków (1908–24), and composed a number of orch. pieces and songs.
