Jones, Geraint (Iwan)

Jones, Geraint (Iwan), Welsh organist, harpsichordist, and conductor; b. Porth, May 16, 1917; d. May 3, 1998. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He made his debut as harpsichordist at the National Gallery in 1940; subsequently gave numerous recitals as an organist, often on historical instruments of Europe. In 1951 he founded the Geraint Jones Singers and Orch., which he led in many performances of Baroque music. He also was music director of the Lake District Festival (1960–78) and the Kirckman Concert Soc. (from 1963), and artistic director of the Salisbury Festival of the Arts (1972–77) and the Manchester International Organ Festival (from 1977).
