Kielland, Olav
Kielland, Olav, Norwegian conductor and composer; b. Trondheim, Aug. 16, 1901; d. B, Telemark, Aug. 5, 1985. He studied with Lhose (conducting) and Krehl (composition) at the Leipzig Cons. (1921–23) and took Weingartner’s conducting class in Basel (1929). He was conductor of the Oslo Phil. (1931–45) and the Bergen Phil. (1952–55); also appeared as a guest conductor abroad. His music followed the tradition of Norwegian national trends.
