Kopylov, Alexander (Alexandrovich)
Kopylov, Alexander (Alexandrovich), Russian composer; b. St. Petersburg, July 14, 1854; d. Strelna, near St. Petersburg, March 5, 1911. He studied violin and piano at the court chapel (1862–72), and upon graduation, took lessons in composition with Rimsky-Korsakov and Liadov. From 1872 to 1896 he taught singing to the court chapel choir. He was an epigone of the Romantic school of minor Russian composers. He wrote a Sym., an overture, 5 string quartets, and many piano pieces.
