Kremlev, Yuli (Anatolyevich)
Kremlev, Yuli (Anatolyevich), Russian musicologist and composer; b. Essentuki, June 19, 1908; d. Leningrad, Feb. 19, 1971. He studied piano at the Leningrad Cons. (1925–28), where he pursued his general musical education (1929–33); later he was granted his Candidate (1944) and Ph.D. (1963) degrees. From 1957 he was head of the music dept. of the Leningrad Inst, of the Theater, Music, and Cinematography. His most significant monographs (all publ. in Moscow) were those on Chopin (1949; 3rd ed., 1971), Grieg (1958), Debussy (1964), Massenet (1969), and Saint-Saëns (1970). He wrote a Sym., 14 piano sonatas, and songs.
