La Tombelle, (Antoine Louis Joseph Gu-eyrand) Fernand (Fouant) de
La Tombelle, (Antoine Louis Joseph Gu-eyrand) Fernand (Fouant) de, French organist and composer; b. Paris, Aug. 3, 1854; d. Château de Fayrac, Dordogne, Aug. 13, 1928. He first studied with his mother, and then at the Paris Cons, with Guilmant (organ) and Dubois (composition); also with Saint-Saëns. From 1885 to 1898 he was asst. organist at the Madeleine, and from 1896 to 1904 prof. of theory at the Schola Cantorum. He publ. the book L’Oratorio et la cantate (Paris, 1911). He wrote the operettas Un Bon Numéro (1892) and Un Rêve au pays du bleu (1892), as well as 2 ballets, orch. music, incidental music, oratorios, masses, motets, chamber music, organ works, and songs.
