Lalo, Édouard-Victor-Antoine
Lalo, Édouard-Victor-Antoine (b Lille, 1823; d Paris, 1892). Fr. composer of Sp. descent. Pubd. songs 1848–9. Played in Armingaud Qt. from 1855. Vn. conc. played by Sarasate 1874, who a year later gave f.p. of Symphonie espagnole. Of his operas, only Le Roi d'Ys had any success. His son, Pierre Lalo (b Puteaux, 1866; d Paris, 1948) was a mus. critic and wrote a book on Wagner (1933).
