Laredo, Ruth (née Meckler)

Laredo, Ruth (née Meckler), American pianist; b. Detroit, Nov. 20, 1937. She studied with Rudolf Serkin at the Curtis Inst. of Music in Philadelphia (B.M., 1960). In 1962 she made her debut with Stokowski and the American Sym. Orch. in N.Y. In 1965 she played in Europe with Rudolf and Peter Serkin; in 1977 she toured Japan. In 1960 she married Jaime Laredo , with whom she played numerous recitals; they were divorced in 1974. She is particularly fond of Russian music, and plays piano works of Rachmaninoff and Scriabin with passionate devotion.
