Leventritt, Edgar M(ilton)
Leventritt, Edgar M(ilton), American music patron; b. San Francisco, Oct. 18, 1873; d. N.Y., May 31, 1939. After training at the Univ. of Calif, (graduated, 1894), he went to N.Y. and studied law. In 1896 he was admitted to the bar. As an amateur pianist, he helped to found the Perolé Quartet in 1925. In his will, he made provision for the establishment of an annual competition for young musicians via the Edgar M. Leventritt Foundation. The first competition was held in 1940.
