Malko, Nikolay (Andreyevich) (b Brailov, 1883; d Sydney, NSW, 1961). Russ.-born conductor (Amer. cit. 1946). Cond. opera and ballet, St Petersburg 1908–18. Prof. Leningrad Cons. 1918–26, cond. Leningrad PO 1926–9. Cond. f.p. of Shostakovich's 1st and 2nd Syms., Leningrad 1926 and 1927. Prof. Moscow Cons. 1927–33. Went to Eng. Amer. début 1938. Settled in Chicago 1940. Cond. Yorkshire SO 1954–5, Sydney SO 1957–61.
