Marcuse, Sibyl
Marcuse, Sibyl, German-born American musicologist; b. Frankfurt am Main (of Swiss-English parents), Feb. 13,1911. After studies in Europe, she lived in China (1932–35); emigrated to the U.S. with the coming of World War II, becoming a naturalized citizen in 1945; studied at a N.Y. school for piano technicians and then worked as a keyboard technician. She was curator of the Yale Univ. Collection of Musical Instruments (1953–60). She publ. Musical Instruments, AComprehensive Dictionary ( 1964; 2nd ed., rev., 1975) and A Survey of Musical Instruments ( 1975).
