Meador, Darmon (August)

Meador, Darmon (August), jazz vocalist, leader, and tenor and soprano saxophone player; b. Waterville, Maine, Aug. 26, 1961. He came from a musical family. After studying at the Univ. of Southern Mass. (1979–82) and Ithaca Coll. (1982–84), he moved to N.Y. in 1986. A year later, he formed the vocal group New York Voices along with several other Ithaca Coll. alumni. The group went through several personnel changes; originally working with instrumentalists and vocalists, the group is currently a vocal quartet. Meador has also worked as an instrumentalist and arranger, and taught at universities and jazz clinics.
