Menter, Joseph, German cellist, father of Sophie Menter; b. Teisbach, Bavaria, Jan. 23, 1808; d. Munich, April 18, 1856. He began his career as a violinist, then studied cello with Moralt in Munich. He became a member of the orch. of the Bavarian Royal Opera (1833).
