Moralt
Moralt, family of German musicians, all brothers and members of the famous Moralt string quartet:
(1) Joseph Moralt, violinist and conductor; b. Schwetzingen, Aug. 5, 1775; d. Munich, Nov. 13, 1855. He was made a supernumerary musician (1787) and concertmaster (1800) in the Munich Hofkapelle. He was also concertmaster in the family string quartet, and likewise conductor at the Italian and German Operas in Munich.
(2) Johann Baptist Moralt, violinist and composer; b. Mannheim, March 10,1777; d. Munich, Oct. 7,1825. He studied violin with Johann Baptist Geiger and C. Cannabich and composition with Joseph Grätz. He composed 2 syms., much chamber music, and sacred vocal works.
(3) Philipp Moralt, cellist; b. Munich, Dec. 29, 1780; d. there, Jan. 10, 1830. He also played in the Munich municipal band.
(4) Georg Moralt, violist; b. Munich, 1781; d. there, 1818.
