Nikolayeva, Tatyana (Petrovna). (b Bezhiza, 1924; d S. Francisco, 1993). Russ. pianist, teacher, and composer. Won 1st prize 1950 at Leipzig Bach bicentennial fest. Teacher at Moscow Cons. 1959–65, prof. from 1965. Shostakovich wrote his 24 Preludes and Fugues (1950–1) for her: she gave f.p. 1952. Brit. début Leeds 1984 (on jury Leeds pf. comp. and gave recital there). London début 1986. Salzburg Fest. début 1987. Comps. incl. syms., 2 pf. concs., pf. quintet, 24 studies for pf., and songs.
