Norberg-Schulz, Elizabeth

Norberg-Schulz, Elizabeth, Norwegian soprano; b. Oslo, Jan. 1959. She studied at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Pears-Britten School in Snape, and with Schwarzkopf in Zürich. After singing Britten’s Les Illuminations in Snape in 1981, she was active as a concert and lieder artist. She also appeared at Milan’s La Scala, touring with the company to Japan in 1988 as Musetta. In 1989 she sang Barbarina at the Rome Opera and Ilia at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. After portraying Pamina in Salzburg in 1991, she returned there as Servilia in 1992, the same year she sang Nor ina in Naples. In 1994 she made her debut at London’s Covent Garden as Liù. Her Metropolitan Opera debut followed in N.Y. on Nov. 10, 1995, as Verdi’s Oscar. She appeared as Cimarosa’s Carolina in Rome in 1996. In 1998 she sang Adele at the Metropolitan Opera.
