Novotná, Jarmila (b Prague, 1907; d NY, 1994). Cz. soprano. Début Prague 1925 as Mařenka in The Bartered Bride. Sang Gilda (Rigoletto) in Verona Arena 1928, then in Berlin at Kroll Oper and Staatsoper. Vienna Opera 1933–8, where she was a distinguished Oktavian in Der Rosenkavalier and created title-role in Lehár's Giuditta, with Tauber, 1934. Débuts: Salzburg Fest. 1935; La Scala 1937; Amer. (S. Francisco) 1939; NY Met 1940–56.
