Oberlin, Russell (Keys)

Oberlin, Russell (Keys), American countertenor; b. Akron, Ohio, Oct. 11, 1928. He studied at the Juilliard School of Music in N.Y., graduating in 1951. In 1952 he joined the N.Y., Pro Musica Antiqua, appearing as a soloist in works from the medieval and Renaissance periods; in 1960 he sang the role of Oberon in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Covent Garden, London. In 1966 he joined the faculty at Hunter Coll. in N.Y.
