Oppitz, Gerhard
Oppitz, Gerhard, German pianist and teacher; b. Frauenau, Feb. 5, 1953. He began piano lessons as a child and made his first public appearance when he was 12. In 1973 he pursued further training in the master class of Wilhelm Kempff. After winning first prize in the Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv in 1977, he appeared as a soloist with the world’s major orchs. and gave recitals in the leading music centers. From 1981 he was also a prof. at the Munich Hochschule für Musik. His catholic repertoire ranges from the standard literature to the contemporary era.
