Orlov, Nikolai (Andreievich)
Orlov, Nikolai (Andreievich), talented Russian pianist; b. Elets, Orlov district, Feb. 26, 1892; d. Grantown-on-Spey, Scotland, May 31, 1964. He studied in Moscow at the Gnessin Music School and then with Igumnov at the Cons, (graduated, 1910); also studied privately with Taneyev. He launched his career in 1912; was also a teacher at the Phil. School (1913–15) and a prof. at the Cons. (1916–21) in Moscow; then toured extensively in Europe, the U.S., and Latin America, settling in England in 1948. He was one of the finest Russian pianists of his day.
