Papandopulo, Boris
Papandopulo, Boris, Croatian conductor and composer; b. Bad Honnef am Rhein, Feb. 25, 1906; d. Zagreb, Oct. 17,1991. He studied in Zagreb and Vienna. Returning to his homeland, he was active as a conductor and composer. In 1959 he was appointed conductor of the National Theater in Zagreb, and from 1964 to 1968 he conducted in Split and Rijeka; later filled engagements as a guest conductor in Yugoslavia. His operas and most of his instrumental works were written in a national Croatian idiom; but he also experimented with the 12-tone techniques, as exemplified by his pointedly titled Dodekafonski concert for 2 Pianos (1961).
