Parker, Jamie (real name, James Edward Kimura)
Parker, Jamie (real name, James Edward Kimura), Canadian pianist, brother of Jon Kimura Parker; b. Burnaby, British Columbia, May 31, 1963. He began his studies with his uncle, Edward J. Parker, and later was a pupil of Marek Jablonski at the Banff School of Fine Arts (1978–87) and of Kum-Sing Lee at the Vancouver Academy of Music (performance certificate, 1981). After obtaining his B.Mus. at the Univ. of British Columbia (1985), he completed his training with Adele Marcus at the Juilliard School in N.Y. (M.Mus., 1987). In 1981 he made his debut as a soloist in Prokofiev’s 1stPiano Concerto with the Calgary Phil., and thereafter performed with principal Canadian orchs. and was active as a recitalist and chamber music artist. In addition to the standard repertoire, Parker also programs the works of contemporary Canadian composers.
