Pauly, Rose [ Pollak, Rose] (b Eperjes, 1894; d Kfar Shmaryan, nr. Tel Aviv, 1975). Hung. soprano. Début Hamburg 1918 in Martha. Cologne Opera 1922–7 (where in 1922 she sang title-role in Ger. première of Káťa Kabanová). Salzburg début 1922; Kroll Oper, Berlin 1927–31; Vienna 1923–38; NY Met 1938–40; CG début 1938. Notable in Strauss roles of Elektra, Dyer's Wife, and Salome. Retired to Israel.
