Peellaert, Augustin-Philippe (-Marie- Ghislain)
Peellaert, Augustin-Philippe (-Marie- Ghislain), South Netherlands composer; b. Bruges, March 12,1793; d. Brussels, April 16,1876. He studied in Paris with Momigny. In 1832 he became a member of the executive board of the Brussels Cons. He wrote several operas, of which the following were produced in Brussels: L’Heure du rendez-vous (1821), Agnes Sorel (Aug. 30, 1823), Le Barmècide (1824), Teniers ou La Noce flamande (Feb. 21, 1825), L’Exilé (1827), Faust (1834), Le Coup de pistolet (1836), and Louis de Maie (1838). His autobiography appeared as Cinquante ans de souvenirs (Brussels, 1867).
