Peinemann, Edith

Peinemann, Edith, German violinist and teacher; b. Mainz, March 3, 1937. She learned the rudiments of music from her father, concertmaster of the Mainz orch., then continued her studies with Heinz Stanske in Heidelberg (1951–53) and Max Rostal in London (1953–56), where she also took courses at the Guildhall School of Music. At the age of 19, she won the Munich International Competition, and then played with many major German orchs.; also gave duo recitals with the Austrian pianist Jorg Demus. In 1962 she made her first tour of America. She was a prof, at the Frankfurt am Main Hochschule für Musik (from 1976).
